Happy New Year!!!
We made it through another year. 2015 was interesting, to say the least. It was a year of ups and downs for me, and I’m really glad it is over. Now I look ahead to the new year with an open mind and hopeful heart. I don’t know what the year has in store for me, but I have a list of things I hope to accomplish in 2016. No resolutions…a few goals…but mostly just some things I want to do. I’ll share some of them with you.
One thing that stands out for me in 2015 is the fact that I started running. I had never been interested in it, but once I started I realized how much I enjoyed it and didn’t want to stop. I ended the year with five different 5K races under my belt and logged a total of 148.81 miles since I started in May. For 2016, I want to run at least 3 days per week. My hope it to complete a total of twelve (12) 5K races…one per month. So far I am registered for one in February, and am considering a second the following week. Looking for one in January we well. Who knows, I might even work my way up to a 10K.
Weight Loss / Toning
I began 2015 weighing in over 230 lbs. (the heaviest I had ever been). I worked hard and dropped down below 200 lbs. for a while. I’ve put some weight back on, so I need to get back on track to lose again. I know if I achieve my running goals the weight loss will come. I honestly am not as concerned with the number as I am with how I look. I want to work on toning my body and being in overall better shape. Again, I know meeting my running goals will help me achieve my overall fitness goal.
At one point in my life I was reading all the time. I’ve always enjoyed reading, but it is so hard to find the time. However, I plan to make better use of my time in 2016. I have set a goal to read a minimum of 6 books, but realistically I think I’ll get in 10. My first one will be Spiritual Leadership by Oswald Sanders. I agreed to read this book and participate in a group discussion with other student ministry leaders at my church. It will be a great way to begin my year!
It has been several years since I’ve taken my kids on a vacation. I plan to change that this year. I have no idea yet where we will go, but I will make it happen. My oldest will begin college in the fall, and I want to make sure we spend lots of quality time together this summer. A vacation will definitely be a part of that.
I love photography, although I’m not great at it. There was a time when I would spend lots of time and energy on photographs. I want to get back to that. I want to hone my skills and take lots of photos this year. One of the things I hope to do is something I’m calling Photographing Tennessee. There is so much happening in and around Nashville (where I live, work and play), and there is a ton of natural beauty in this state. I want to spend time capturing and sharing the sights, people and beauty that make Tennessee such a great place.
These are just a few of the things (off my list of 14 so far) I hope to do in 2016. I have some goals and will do my very best to accomplish them. Regardless of whether or not I have the opportunities to do all of these things, I will make the most of 2016. I plan to seize every moment and enjoy life. My year will be filled with family, friends and making memories. I look forward to sharing much of that with you all.
