Marching Competition Number 1

Yesterday was a long and tiring, but great day. I spent the day (and most of the night) with my oldest daughter, Rachel, and the Page High School Marching Patriots at the Traveler’s Rest Invitational. This was the band’s first competition of the season, and I thought they performed well.

The preliminary competition began at noon. Page had a great show in the preliminaries. They looked at sounded good, and that was evident with the outcome. They won awards for best visual and best auxiliary and took 2nd place in their division (out of 7 bands). They ended in the top 5 going into the finals.

The performance in the finals got off to a rough start, as there we some equipment issues. I think that hurt the band and negatively affected their performance. They still had a good showing and sounded good, although I did think the preliminary performance was better. They ended the night 8th place overall out of 14 bands. I was pleased with the results for their first competition.

Our next competition is Saturday at Austin Peay University in Clarksville, TN. I have seen great improvements in the band’s sound and presentation over the past few weeks, and I’m sure they will work hard this week in preparation for the upcoming competition. I’m looking forward to seeing how well they will do.
