Some reading this might be shocked to discover that I have a tattoo. Well, indeed I do, and here is a photo as proof – today’s entry for my Photo-a-Day project.
I have had the tattoo for a little over a year. I decided to get one well before I actually had this done. When I finally said it was time I had a general idea in mind. I knew I wanted a cross but was not certain on the style. I saw one similar to the design I chose on a shirt. I showed the tattoo artist a picture of it and she came up with what you see here.
The question that always comes up is…why? It was a personal decision for me. I wanted one, but I didn’t want just anything permanently placed on my body. I wanted something that would be a constant reminder of something greater. I decided that the best option would be a visual display of my faith. That is why I chose this design.
The next question I get is about the tattoo design. People want to know what it signifies. The cross represents my faith in Jesus Christ. The sword running through it is the Word of God (Hebrews 4:12, Revelation 1:16). The vine wrapping around it is taken from Scripture as well. In John 15:5 Jesus says,
I am the vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in Me and I in him produces much fruit, because you can do nothing without Me.
Some may disagree with tattoos, but I say to each their own. I have no desire to completely cover my body in ink as some choose to do. I do think I may eventually get more, but I have no plans to do that at this time. For now I am content with the ink on my arm.
