Lately I’ve found myself seeking opportunities to serve. Over the past several months I have volunteered for things at my church that I typically would not have. I’ve asked myself why. What is my motivation for wanting to find opportunities to serve? Part of it is personal. I think we all have a tendency to do good things to make ourselves feel better. Serving others does make me feel good, but that’s not my main motivation. I also have been very blessed by our church and feel that volunteering to serve is a great way to give back. However, I’ve come to realize that my main reason for serving is much greater. I’ve found that my motivation is to honor and glorify God.
Recently several opportunities to serve have presented themselves. I have volunteered to serve in our middle school ministry at church helping on Wednesday nights running the audio for the worship service. I also helped with Disciple Now weekend by manning the lights for the worship services. I served again this year in our Upward basketball ministry. And, I continue to serve in the church orchestra and as a deacon. I don’t do this for myself, or even for others. Sure, I know that what I’m doing is helpful to others, but my goal is to serve God and bring Him glory. That is the reason we were created, after all.
With that said I’ve decided to make some changes to what will be seen in this blog. A few weeks ago I published a post about a new direction for the blog. That didn’t develop as I thought it would. That is a good thing because God was preparing my heart for what I’m planning to do now. We are commanded by Jesus Christ to spread the Gospel to the world. I’ve never felt led to leave this country and become a foreign missionary, so I’ve been thinking of ways I can follow His command. The best place for me to begin is right here on this blog. I know I have readers in New Zealand, England, and Germany, and I hope to add more places soon. My goal is to use this blog to write more posts about Jesus and how you can know Him and experience His power in your life. My hope is that my readers in other parts of the world will share links to my blog with people they know. I’m not in a position right now to physically go into the world, but I can certainly use this outlet as a means to tell the world.
To all of my loyal readers…thank you for following me and reading my posts. I would like to ask each of you to help me spread the Word to others. Please feel free to share a link to my blog with those you know who might benefit from reading it. I want to tell the world that Jesus lived, died, and lives again. Let’s start today!
