My Soul Finds Rest

28“Come to Me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.29 All of you, take up My yoke and learn from Me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for yourselves. 30For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.

Matthew 11:28-30 (HCSB)

Sunday at church I was reminded of something. We sang the song It Is Well With My Soul. This is such a great song of faith and is one of my favorite old hymns. The version we sing has been updated a little, and the chorus goes like this.

It is well
It is well
Through the storm
I am held

It is well
It is well
With my soul

It is well
It is well
God has won
Christ prevailed

It is well
It is well
With my soul

This song, along with my selected Scripture passage, is a great reminder that no matter what, it is well with my soul, and my soul finds rest in Christ alone. No matter the circumstances…no matter how dark the times…no matter how hopeless the situation seems…I am safe in the arms of Christ.

Right now my family and I are facing some very undesirable circumstances. We are in the midst of the biggest trial of our lives, but I can honestly say I am at peace, and it is well with my soul. I know He is in control. He has brought us through other trials, and I am certain He will bring us through this one. I don’t know how people who don’t know Christ make it through the trials in their lives. My faith in Him is the only thing I have to cling to, and that is more than enough.

I pray that any of you who are going through trials will read today’s Bible verses and listen to this great hymn. May you know that He wants you to come to Him for rest so you can truly say it is well.
