I’m sitting next to the pool as I type this post. Elise and her friend wanted to come to the pool today, so I gave in and drove them down here. I wasn’t really in the mood to be at the pool, but I’m glad I came. It’s not very often I have the chance to do this. I really enjoy these days of summertime fun.
I took one week of my vacation this past week. We really couldn’t afford to do much this year, but we had to get away. So, we packed up last Sunday for a short road trip.
Our first stop was Knoxville. We spent July 4 with my sister and brother-in-law. It was a fun day filled with swimming, good food and family time. From there we spent the night with Jacinda’s grandmother before heading out to our next destination.
Monday morning we headed north on I-75 to Cincinnati, where we would spend the next couple of days. Jacinda discovered there was an IKEA there, so of course we had to make a stop there for a little shopping. I’ll admit that I love IKEA and really don’t mind at all spending time (and money) there. The girls even enjoy that place. From there we checked into the hotel then headed to Newport, KY to check out Newport on the Levee along the Cincinnati riverfront.
Tuesday was the day for which we planned the trip. We spent that day at the Creation Museum in Petersburg, KY. Rachel & I had been there before with her Sunday school group, but this was the first trip for Jacinda and Elise. We had a great day viewing all the exhibits and learning all about creation. We took lots of photos to remind us of the fun we had. Click on the “photos” tab on this blog to view a few of them. If you want to see more check them out on my Facebook page here. You may also want to check out my post Learning About Creation which I posted last year after Rachel and I visited the museum.
We ended our day Tuesday back in Newport, KY for dinner at Pompilio’s, a 77-year old Italian restaurant. It was voted best Italian restaurant in greater Cincinnati in 2010 by City Beat Magazine, and it truly lived up to that award. The food was fantastic! The next time I have the opportunity to visit Cincinnati you can bet I’ll be dining at Pompilio’s.
Wednesday morning we packed up and headed back to Nashville. It was a short trip, but we had fun. It was nice to get away for a few days and spend some quality time with the family. I hope we’ll be able to make another short getaway later this year, maybe in October for fall break. We’ll have to wait and see. For now I’ll just enjoy the summertime fun!
