Who’s In Control?

It is difficult for us to give up control of something. We just want to do it ourselves. In fact, we are taught to do things for ourselves. We teach our kids to do things themselves. We like to control things because that means we’re in charge. Unfortunately there are some things that are simply out of our control. We cannot do it ourselves, but oh how we try.

Why do we try so hard to do things ourselves and keep all the control? I think part of it human nature, especially for guys. We feel like it’s our job. We are the head of the family, therefore we have to be in charge and in control. I know I’m guilty of that. But sometimes we need to step back and turn control over to someone else. Some situations may call for the control to shift to our spouse, our kids, or maybe even a friend. Of course we really need to give up control of everything and let God take charge. He knows what is best for us and will always lead us down the right paths.

I’m learning more and more to do just that. There are so many things that happen every day – at work, at home, etc. – that I simply have no control over, no matter what I do. I’m learning to focus on the things that I can control and turn those that I cannot over to Him. I’m not there yet, but I’m working on it. I’ve found by doing that there is much less stress throughout the day. Hopefully I can stay focused on what I can do and turn the rest over to God and move out of His way.
