Have you ever prayed for something very important to you? I’m sure you have. That’s what I’m doing. The hardest part is waiting. What do you do while you are waiting on the Lord, especially when it seems like He is silent? That’s something I’ve wrestled with this week. But yesterday and this morning I think I received some clarity on this subject.

Yesterday afternoon I decided to read some Psalms. For some reason I turned to Psalm 40 to begin. It starts like this.

I waited patiently for the LORD, and He turned to me and heard my cry for help. He brought me up from a desolate pit, out of the muddy clay, and set my feet on a rock, making my steps secure. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the LORD.

Then, this morning I heard the song While I’m Waiting by John Waller. The lyrics begin this way.

I’m waiting

I’m waiting on You, Lord

And I am hopeful

I’m waiting on You, Lord

Though it is painful

But patiently, I will wait

I will move ahead, bold and confident

Taking every step in obedience

While I’m waiting

I will serve You while I’m waiting

I will worship while I’m waiting

I will not faint

I’ll be running the race

Even while I wait

So, what am I doing while I wait? I don’t think I read Psalm 40 or heard the song by accident. I think this just may be God’s way of telling me to be patient. That’s not always easy to do, especially when you really want something to happen. I trust Him and know He will open a door of opportunity for me. I just have to wait patiently. But also, I need to continue to serve and worship Him while I wait. I can’t allow the circumstance to affect how I respond to Him during this time of waiting. So, as the song says, I need to keep moving ahead in boldness and confidence and continue to run the race, even while I wait.

As a personal favor I would like to ask all of my readers to pray for me. Pray for doors of opportunity to be opened. Pray that I will have the wisdom and vision to see when those doors are opened. Pray that I will serve and worship Him while I wait. And, pray that I will wait patiently, knowing that He is good and He will lead me to something great.
