I really don’t watch very much television anymore. There was a time when I would watch several programs every day. Over the years I have slowly moved away from watching that much. Now I average maybe about an hour of TV per day. (The only exception to that is during football season when my average per day increases a bit.) I think a big part of why I don’t watch much anymore is that there really just isn’t that much on I want to see. Plus, I have other ways I choose to spend my time. When I do choose to watch there is a handful of programs that I view. I thought I would share a few of my favorites with you along with the reasons I like them so much.
The Closer on TNT is probably my favorite show. Why? I love police dramas. I remember as a teenager watching Hill Street Blues. That’s really where my love for the cop drama began. Dennis Franz was great in that show, and I became a fan. Then of course there came NYPD Blue, which is still my all-time favorite TV show. I’ve seen every episode (many more than once). Now I’ve moved on to The Closer. I try not to miss any episodes when they air, but if I do I’ll catch them later in the week On-Demand.
When it comes to reality TV there is none more real than Deadliest Catch on Discovery. These fishermen put their lives on the line just to catch crab. I love getting a glimpse of how harsh life is on the Bering Sea. I’m really drawn to the captains and crews and the jobs they do. It has given me a new understanding of “hard work”.
My favorite new show is Undercover Boss on CBS. Here the President or CEO of a company goes undercover and works alongside his employees. It is such a great concept, and I really enjoy seeing what the executive learns from his experience. I think every CEO in America should do this so they can better understand what their employees do on a daily basis. CBS hit a home run with this one!
This one might surprise some of you, but I love L.A. Ink. I have started watching this show regularly as of late. Tattoo artists are amazing. The ones featured on L.A. Ink are exceptionally talented and do some pretty impressive work. I love watching Kat Von D take a photograph and transform it into a tattoo that looks more realistic than the photo in many cases. I also enjoy hearing the stories that the folks getting the tattoos tell. This is one of those shows that once I started watching I was hooked.
My favorite Food Network show is Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. I like this show because I enjoy learning about the unique places featured. It is fun to try a little “hole-in-the-wall” restaurant when traveling, and this show helps find some of those places. Guy Fieri is a hoot and makes the show very entertaining.
So, there you have my favorite television shows I watch regularly. I’m curious about your favorites.
Are any of your favorite TV shows on my list?
Do you have any you would recommend and why?
