One of the goals I set to accomplish in 2009 was to strengthen my faith and understanding of God’s Word. For the second time I followed a daily reading plan to read the Bible through in a year. I’m happy to say that I finished the last few chapters last night.
I am very glad I was able to stick to the plan and re-read God’s Word. This year I approached my daily reading a little differently than in the past. I tried to spend time reflecting on the meaning of the Scripture and its application in my life. I learned quite a bit throughout the year by doing that. It amazes me how I can read something I have read or heard for years and get a feeling of new discovery. Its like, “Wow, I never saw it like that before!”.
So, as I close the book on this last day of 2009 I feel I have accomplished something. Not only did I read all the way through the Bible, I studied and learned from the Scriptures. My goal was to strengthen my faith, and I feel like I have done that.
I haven’t decided yet if I will read through the Bible again in 2010. I may try a different approach and study several New Testament books. No matter what I decide I know I will continue to read and study God’s Word. The benefits to doing so are bountiful and eternal. Would you join me in 2010 and make a commitment to reading and studying?
