Saturday was homecoming for the University of Tennessee. The Vols hosted the Memphis Tigers and did not disappoint the crowd at Neyland Stadium as they rolled to a 56-28 victory.
Jonathan Crompton had a career night finishing 21-of-27 for 310 yards, 5 touchdowns and no interceptions. He also rushed for another TD. The Vols offense was on fire putting up 42 points in the first half and completely dominated the Tigers.
The Vols defense played very well in the first half. By halftime Memphis had only gained 104 total yards. Lane Kiffin used his second-team defense for much of the second half, and they did not perform quite as well as the first-team. The Vols gave up 3 touchdowns and nearly 300 yards in the second half.
I must say I was surprised by how good the Vols looked in this game. The team has really come a long way since the beginning of the year. For the first time this season they have won 2 consecutive games. With only 3 games remaining, I think Tennessee has a very good chance to win out and make it to a bowl game. The toughest opponent left is this Saturday when the Vols travel to Oxford, MS to face Ole Miss. I think the Vols are playing with a lot of momentum right now and predict they will win these last 3 games.
