Am I Second?

I am a fan of a movement known as I Am Second. If you don’t know what that is I invite you to check out the website. The following statement was taken directly from the site.

I Am Second is a movement where significance in life is a shared value among people of all kinds. Actors. Athletes. Musicians. Business leaders. Your
next-door neighbor. People just like you. Their authentic stories here on iamsecond.com provide insight into dealing with typical struggles of everyday living. You’ll meet people who overcame destructive lifestyles. Plus you’ll discover those who’ve tried to go it alone and have failed, yet still found a life full of hope, peace and fulfillment.

I encourage you to check out some of the videos on the website. Watching these videos brought a question to my mind. Am I second? Better yet, is He first? Do I put me second and Jesus Christ first in my life? I’ll confess that, unfortunately, my answer to that is often no. Sure there are times when I can say yes, He is first, but not all the time. As a Christ follower that should be my goal: Jesus is first and I (and everything else) am second. It’s so easy to get caught up in what we want or need, and we find ourselves praying selfish prayers. It becomes all about me.

I want to change the way I think and pray. Starting now, I want to be second. When I choose to make Christ first things just seem to have a way of working out. It’s not always easy, but He leads me through the struggles. It’s when I take my focus off Him that I start to sink.

So, I ask you, the readers of this blog, for two things today.

  1. Are you second? If not, will you strive to be second?
  2. Will you pray for me as I strive daily to make Him first and me second?
