The Legal System, Political Correctness, and Other Rants!

I typically don’t use this blog as a platform to rant about things, but I’m so fed up with these things and just needed to vent. So, here goes.

First, let me start with a rant about the legal system. I’ll refer to this story about Donte Stallworth. If you’re not familiar with the situation here’s a quick recap. A few months ago, Stallworth is driving drunk (blood alcohol level of .12 at 7:00 am) when he hits and kills a pedestrian in Miami, FL. This week he plead guilty to DUI manslaughter and received 30 days in jail. That’s right…30 days! What an outrage!!! Why is it celebrities and professional athletes in this country receive preferential treatment in legal matters? There is no doubt had you or I done something like this we would be facing the maximum possible sentence. But not someone like Donte Stallworth. Oh, no. We can’t send him to jail for killing an innocent person. That just wouldn’t be fair. I guess Brad Paisley’s song Celebrity is accurate when it says: “I’ll get community service no matter which law I break”.

Rant number 2…Political Correctness.

Believe it or not, political correctness has invaded our cartoons! That’s right, cartoons. I was watching Tom & Jerry last night with my kids on Cartoon Network. Now, I grew up watching this cartoon and would guess I’ve seen most of them several times. The one we were watching last night depicted Jerry (the mouse, in case you aren’t familiar) traveling to the big city. One scene finds Jerry next to a shoe shine stand. The man shining the shoes reaches over to grab a brush but grabs Jerry instead and proceeds to dunk him head first into the black shoe polish. He then uses Jerry’s head to dab the polish onto the shoes then re-deposits Jerry (head first) into the polish. Jerry then squirms and pulls his head free and looks up, revealing a black face. Now, that is the way I remember seeing it, but not last night. Cartoon Network actually edited the scene and only showed Jerry struggling to pull his head out. When he pulled his head out and looked up we were immediately taken to the next scene. Why???? Political correctness, of course. It just wouldn’t be PC to depict Jerry (a cartoon mouse) with a black face. That would be racist and make someone feel uncomfortable. But what about the next scene in the cartoon? It shows Jerry floating on some water running along a sidewalk. When he passes several female legs he whistles at them. Why not edit that scene as well? After all, if a black face after falling in shoe polish is not PC and could be deemed racist, then wouldn’t whistling at women also be politically incorrect and deemed sexist??? PC….more like BS!!!!!

Now I move on to what’s happening to our great country. Merriam-Webster’s Online Dictionary defines socialism like this:

1: any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods
2 a: a system of society or group living in which there is no private property b: a system or condition of society in which the means of production are owned and controlled by the state

Take a look at what is happening to the automobile industry in the U.S. and what is being proposed for government run health care. Add to that the banking industry. The people of this country voted for change in November of 2008. Well, we sure got change. This great nation is slowly being changed into a socialist nation. Just read the definition and watch the news. It’s happening! I hope the American people wake up and vote for change again in 2010. We need strong conservative leadership in Congress before it’s too late and this country is destroyed from within!

I could go on about these and several other issues, but that’s enough ranting for now. I’m sure some reading this will agree with me, but I also know some of you will disagree. I welcome any comments and would love to know what you think.
