The Tennessee Vols came into Nashville Saturday to take on Vandy, and managed to hang on and win 20-10. This was an important win for the Vols because a loss would have meant this team would have become the first in UT history to lose 8 games in a season. Now, all they have to do is get by Kentucky next week to avoid that 8 loss record and send Phillip Fulmer out with another win.
While the win was nice, the game was still not great. The Vols continue to struggle offensively, although the running game was greatly improved. Tennessee managed 222 rushing yards against Vandy. I was happy to see freshman QB B.J. Coleman get some playing time. I think this is a very talented kid who may be the future for the Vols at QB. He seems to have a good arm and can run. I look forward to seeing what he will do over the next few years.
The Tennessee defense once again stepped up and played a great game. They held Vandy to 188 passing and 25 rushing yards. Eric Berry grabbed his 7th interception of the season and returned it 45 yards for a TD. That pick makes 12 for his career, with 487 interception return yards. Keep in mind he is only a sophomore!
It was nice to see the Vols win again. I hope they can do the same thing this Saturday against Kentucky in Knoxville. Phillip Fulmer has been an outstanding coach for the Vols, and he deserves to earn a win in his last game.
