Over the past few weeks I have heard sermons, read devotionals and received e-mails with a common theme…making God known. A couple of weeks ago our pastor, Mark Marshall, preached a sermon on the last chapter of Acts. The title of the sermon was THE Mission, which is spelled out in Acts 1:8.
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. (NIV)
Jesus spoke these words to the apostles giving them the command to spread the Gospel all over the world. This, likewise, is our command. Our mission is to share our faith in Jesus Christ and spread the Gospel.
This past weekend I received an e-mail that discussed worry. Basically the e-mail stated that if your heart is set on the world then you’re going to worry. But, if your primary focus is the kingdom of God you begin to see things from a different perspective. You begin to look for ways to fulfill the command issued in Acts 1:8 to be God’s “witnesses” throughout the world.
Finally, this past Sunday, our pastor’s sermon was Path to God’s Purpose. He brought us back to the same topic as a few weeks back…THE mission. Part of his sermon outline included our church’s mission statement.
ClearView exists to make radical disciples focused on making God known to the ends of the earth.
I’ll admit that I’m not one to jump up and share my faith when an opportunity arises. I can’t tell you how many opportunities I might have missed due to my fears, etc. However, I want to be one of those “radical disciples” mentioned above. I pray that my walk with Christ will grow daily and that I will have the courage needed to boldly proclaim my faith in Him whenever an opportunity presents itself. This blog post today is a step in the right direction. I never know who will read what I post here. I want all who read it to know that I am a Christ follower and not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ!
I find myself today asking what God has planned for me. I am taking on a new leadership role with the ClearView Men’s Ministry, but I’m still uncertain what I’ll be doing with that ministry. It might be helping teach a new Sunday School class (I’m praying about that one). Whatever it is, I want to be sure I am focusing on THE mission. I ask for all reading this to pray for me and the decisions I make. Pray that what I will do and say will help make God known…to the ends of the earth!
